Youth Network

Report on the 3 years of the Youth Network

We are excited to have concluded our 3-year project in Newcomer Civic Engagement.

During the last 3 years, we focused on:

  • Providing newcomer youth tools to take leadership in their community;
  • Increasing the commitment and capacity of the CCR to implement a youth-led perspective
  • Developing a sustainable structure for the YN.

This journey has enriched the Youth Network and its members in so many ways and we would like to celebrate these accomplishments with all of you!

Thank you for participating and supporting our work.

Talk to Action Infographic

The CCR Youth Network Talk to Action  Sessions took place from November 2020 to March 2021.

This new initiative was designed to foster dialogue among newcomer and refugee youth (ages 16-25) while accommodating to the new socially distanced, virtual reality. The specific topics discussed were mental health, racism, youth leadership, education and professional development.

Yes Toolkit

Summary

This Youth Engagement Sustainability (YES) toolkit aims to do the following:

  • provide a starting point to explore challenges and best practices for implementing meaningful youth engagement
  • include key learnings and critical insights of youth engagement offered by the Community of Practice members
  • explore timely issues including navigating financial stress, the impacts of COVID-19 on youth engagement, and Inclusivity and Youth Empowerment
  • highlight how a youth engagement approach interacts both horizontally within/across our communities and vertically as they relate to other systems of power
  • offer practical examples and strategies of how to fill in the gap between theory and practice within an organization context

Youth Network Bursaries - deadline August 17

The CCR Youth Network Bursaries provide financial assistance to youth immigrants, newcomers, refugees and non-status students who find themselves marginalized in accessing financial aid given their status/identity in Canada. This financial aid is equally a COVID-19-related initiative to help offset the financial burden that the above-mentioned persons face.

Number and Value of Bursaries

Two (2) scholarships will be available. One community-based scholarship and one education scholarship will be awarded.

Each scholarship is valued at $650.00 CAD

Local Branches

The Local Branch Activation took place from November 2018 to March 2019, which set the foundations of the Local Youth Network Branches. Four communities across Canada (Vancouver, Sherbrooke, Toronto and Fredericton) participated in this initiative, each consulting newcomer youth on what they want the journey to Canada to look like, and sharing these remits with their community and organizations.
