Bill C-20, An Act establishing the Public Complaints and Review Commission, responds to the Canadian Council for Refugees’ longstanding call for oversight of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) – we welcome this bill as a long overdue measure. There are shortcomings in the bill, as outlined in our submission, but we urge that they be addressed through amendments and the bill passed.

This is the CCR submission to the 2018 House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights for their study on human trafficking in Canada.
This written submission is provided to the House of Commons’ Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration Committee in the context of the study the Committee decided to undertake in February 2018 of the Immigration and Refugee Board’s (IRB) appointments processes, training for board members, particularly as those processes relate to the cultural sensitivity, sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression sensitivity, and complaints processes.
