Winnipeg’s Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) has support from its management and board of directors to make relations with Indigenous People central to its overall objectives. The Board of directors made “Nurturing strong Indigenous-newcomer relations” one of its four strategic directions for the 2015-2018 Strategic Plan and renewed this strategic direction in the 2019-2021 Strategic Planning session.
IRCOM is also committed to hiring practices that create a staff team which is diverse and includes Indigenous people. In hiring, where possible and suitable, IRCOM disseminates job postings to Indigenous partner organizations and Indigenous employment organizations, and have looked at Indigenous identity as a factor in employment.
