This 90-minute webinar aims to build the capacity of settlement workers and lawyers to work with non-status, racialized women who have experienced gendered violence. Deepa Mattoo will provide information from a trauma-informed perspective on issues affecting racialized women who are precarious immigrants in Canada by exploring the relationship between race, gender, and immigration status.
The legal landscape of immigration law in Canada is constantly changing, and service providers need to be equipped with a clear understanding of the law in order to dispel common myths and provide accurate information to their clients.
The webinar will look at:
- The benefits women qualify for under different immigration categories
- A catalogue of gender-based IRPA statute framework and guidelines, as well as an identification of the gaps in the legal framework
- An overview of the privacy legislation and the requirements of service providers to disclose information regarding non-status women
This webinar is being offered within the context of a fellowship in community partnership with Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic (BSCC) and the Rights of Non-Status Women’s Network (RNSWN).
Cette session aura lieu en anglais, mais les participants peuvent poser leurs questions en français.
