Refugee Rights Day - 2022

When
Date
Time
7pm [Eastern]

This year, on Refugee Rights Day (April 4), we will call on the government of Canada to respect the right to refuge.

April 4th is the anniversary of the Supreme Court’s 1985 Singh decision. In this decision, the Supreme Court found that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects the fundamental rights of refugees. And yet, this right is not reflected in our country’s policies and practices, namely in the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA).

The April 4 event aims to inspire and empower attendees to take action.

Speakers:

Justin Mohammed

Human Rights Law & Policy Campaigner at Amnesty International Canada

Olga Munyana

Human Rights Activist with lived experience concerning STCA.

Anna Mehler Paperny

Reporter for Reuters, based in Toronto
