Youth Network Core Team Applications

Apply to join the Core Team!

The CCR Youth Network is calling out to all youth newcomer and refugee leaders in Canada!  

We are in search of 6 – 9 young newcomer volunteers to lead our Youth Network’s Core Team. Each member of the core team volunteers their time and experience to work together online to deliver in-person and virtual initiatives across Canada on issues that young  newcomers and refugees care about. These initiatives include webinars, workshops, campaigns, Youth Action Gatherings, CCR events, and much more. The Core Team is responsible for giving direction to the Youth Network, taking on leadership roles in mentorship and sharing expertise, influencing CCR’s approach around policy and actions regarding youth newcomers and refugees, and promoting advocacy. 

ELIGIBILITY
To join the core team, you must: 
  • Be a newcomer and/or refugee youth living in Canada, between the ages of 16 – 25 years old, regardless of your immigration status. 
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and have experience being involved with newcomer and refugee youth in your community. 
  • Be able to work in a virtual environment, as the core team includes members across Canada. 
  • Be able to travel in-person to Core Team retreats, CCR Consultations, Youth Action Gatherings, etc. that happen throughout the year.  

  • Be committed to your Core Team role and responsibilities. 

  • Have organizational, leadership, and teamwork skills. 

Additional assets:
  • Having direct experience with the Canadian Council for Refugees, such as participating in the YAG, CCR Consultations and/or CCR meetings.  

  • Being connected to or having the support of a CCR Member Organization. 

  • To ensure representation of different provinces in the Core Team, we give preference to youth who live in Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Quebec. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

The Core Team will delegate positions as a team: we will decide together what roles are necessary and who best fits each role. 

Past Core Team positions have included: 
  • Co-chair 

  • Internal Communications 

  • External Communications 

  • Events, Education, and Programming 

  • Fundraising 

As a Core Team Member, you will: 
  • Volunteer a minimum of 12 hours/month to the Core Team until January 2024. Time commitment may change during projects that increase the Core Team’s workload. 

  • Attend online core team meetings twice a month and provide updates from your respective role. 

  • Work with all Core Team members to plan the 2023 Youth Action Gathering, as well as participate in CCR events and creating additional Youth Network initiatives. 

  • Travel to in-person events such as Core Team retreats, the CCR Consultation and meetings, and the Youth Action Gathering that happen throughout the year. 

By being part of the core group, you will be provided the opportunity to:  
  • Influence the future directions of the Youth Network and the CCR in policy and government relations. 

  • Travel and connect with youth newcomers from different provinces across Canada. 

  • Develop leadership, organizational, facilitation, and public speaking skills. 

  • Collaborate with other Youth leaders from across Canada. 

  • Bring the voice of your community into policy related conversations. 

  • Stay up to date with immigration and settlement policies. 

  • Network with CCR members, academics, policy makers, advocates and mentors.
