Text:

I am writing to ask you to take urgent action to address the extraordinarily long waiting times at the Nairobi visa office.

The following case illustrates the problem: [alternatively you could use a case example known to you. If you want a response on a case, include a signed consent: http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5475E.pdf]

Zeynab, a Somali refugee resettled to Canada from a camp in Kenya in 2008, is waiting to be reunited with her baby daughter, left behind in Kenya. According to current excruciatingly slow processing times at Nairobi, she can expect to wait 31 months before her young daughter joins her in Canada.

[For more information about Zeynab, see here]

The Canadian Council for Refugees' report Nairobi: Protection Delayed, Protection denied documents the scope of the problems at Nairobi. These delays mean that refugees are denied protection, and children wait in vulnerable situations to be reunited with their parents in Canada. The longer the wait, the greater the risk to the security, the health and even the lives of refugees.

I am seeking your urgent intervention to address the long delays at Nairobi. I urge you to take action so that the  recommendations in the CCR report are adopted.

Yours sincerely,
