The Canadian Council for Refugees is offering funding to assist a few people from the settlement sector in participating in the Fall Consultation in Calgary, 24-26 November 2010. The funding will cover air/train fare to Calgary and accommodation (shared hotel room). Other costs such as food or ground transportation are not covered. The registration fee will be waived.

Applicants must:

  • Have experience working or volunteering in the area of immigrant and refugee settlement.
  • Be affiliated with an organization that offers settlement services to immigrants and/or refugees.
  • Be available to participate in the entire Consultation.
  • Fill in and submit the application form, together with a letter of support from their organization, by Tuesday 19 October 2010.

The CCR will use the following criteria in making the selection:

    • Ability to make a particular contribution to the settlement discussions at the Consultation (see program available at ccrweb.ca/eng/about/meetings.htm)
    • Ability to make particularly effective use of their participation at the Consultation in their settlement work in their home community.
    • Frontline work or volunteer experience with refugees and immigrants
    • Commitment to ongoing  engagement with the CCR
    • Regional representation
    • Financial need

  • The funding is intended for people who cannot otherwise afford to attend the CCR Consultation.  Please explain your financial need.

In addition to answering these questions, you must submit a letter from your organization confirming that they support your participation and will cover expenses not covered by the CCR.  The letter should also state what they see as the benefits of your attending the CCR.
