Dear (Your Member of Parliament's or the Senator’s Name)
I am writing to you to follow up on my telephone call requesting a
meeting.
This April 4 is Refugee Rights Day, the date on which the Canadian
Supreme
Court rendered the very important Singh decision in 1985. In that
decision,
the Court ruled that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms
protects
the right of refugee claimants in Canada to life, liberty and security
of
the person, and entitled claimants to an oral hearing in accordance
with
the principles of fundamental justice.
Since this is the anniversary of the Singh decision, we would like to
tell you about the advances made in the protection of refugee rights as
a
result of the Singh decision, as well as about some of the threats to
those
rights. We support refugee rights and have experience /first hand
knowldege
of the issues we wish to raise with you.
We look forward to meeting you on…[confirm date of meeting/request for
meeting
depending on what was discussed in the call]
Thank you.
Sincerely,
