In recognition for the Canadian Council for Refugee’s Walk with Refugees week, the CCLC is conducting a secondary school food drive for Joseph’s House. Joseph’s House is always in need of non-perishable food items for its residents, and high school students from Beal and CCH, in partnership with their Settlement Workers in Schools, will be encouraged to donate food items for this worthwhile cause.  During this food drive, ESL classes will be educated on the refugee experience, hearing from students that are newcomers to Canada and will be provided with information about refugees in Canada. On Wednesday June 17th, students will be walking to Joseph’s House to donate the food items collected over the last month.  In addition, we will be hosting a walk for refugees on that same day from 4:00pm to 5:30pm in Victoria Park.  The walk will end with a station designed to distribute information on refugees in Canada and on how to volunteer with various immigrant and refugee organizations.

The movie provides a personal, realistic, yet hopeful portrayal of the journey of a group of Sudanese children, from the devastation of their village to the reconstruction of their lives in North America.
