IRB fraud posters

Summary:

The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) reports that people are receiving telephone calls from persons claiming to be IRB representatives. The victims are told that they are under investigation and owe money. In some instances, these calls are made to appear to be coming from the IRB or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The IRB is working with law enforcement agencies to bring an end to this scam. In the meantime, they are asking for help in sharing this message with the stakeholder community and limiting the impacts of this fraud.

If anyone receives a call of this nature, they should not comply with any of the demands and immediately contact the Canadian-Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501. Victims of fraud should call local police as soon as possible.

Below are posters prepared by the IRB in various languages. They are encouraging organizations to make the poster available in spaces frequented by the refugee and the immigrant communities.
