Canada's immigration detention system has more work to do

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale should be commended for the humanitarian improvements he has made to Canada’s immigration detention system. By declaring in 2016 that people should be locked up pending refugee and immigration hearings only as a “last resort,” he reduced the number held in detention in Canada to 3,557 last year, down from about 10,000 only five years ago.
