Canadian Council for Refugees Spring Consultation
‘Our Past, Our Future: Our Children’TITLE

Members of the media are invited to a national consultation on refugee and immigration issues taking place in Winnipeg from 22-24 May 2008.  The theme of the Consultation is ‘Our Past, Our Future: Our Children’.

Workshops will include:
•    Youth and challenges in schools
•    Bhutanese refugees
•    Temporary workers and the ‘Canadian Experience Class’
•    Family separation and its impacts on children
...and many more

2008 marks the 30th anniversary of the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR).  This national consultation in Winnipeg is an opportunity to see how the rights of refugees and immigrants have evolved over the past 30 years, to celebrate milestones, as well as to make plans for the future.

The CCR Consultation will bring together leaders in the promotion of refugee and immigrant rights from across Canada and this is an opportunity to meet them.  Participants will include senior representatives of local and national refugee and immigrant-serving organizations, representatives of faith-based organizations, policy-makers, academics, lawyers, youth activists and refugees.

Most of the Consultation sessions are open to the media and we encourage media representatives to contact us beforehand to discuss what you would like to cover.  Please check in at the CCR registration desk on site.  Opportunities will be available to interview participants.

The consultation is made possible through funding from Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
