In this webinar, federal Crown Prosecutor Michelle Ferguson addressed the limitations of existing trafficking laws and legal strategies to overcome them. Her presentation also referred to landmark trafficking cases.

This webinar was part of an initiative to reinforce the capacity of lawyers to respond to the needs of trafficked persons and exploited persons who do not identify as trafficked, or who are not recognized as trafficked under the law (eg. exploited migrant workers).

Michelle Ferguson, Crown Prosecutor (Edmonton, Alberta)

Michelle Ferguson has been a Federal Prosecutor since 1997. In recent years, Michelle’s focus has been on combatting both human trafficking and the exploitation of foreign workers. In 2009, she joined the Regulatory and Economic Crime Group where she has been focusing on prosecutions under various Federal Statutes including the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Her practice focused on prosecutions under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act from 1997-2003.
