RIAC members and friends are invited to come together and celebrate Refugee Rights Day with a multicultural potluck at our offices, located at 204 Water St. (above Coffee and Co.) on Monday, April 4. Take this opportunity to enjoy the rich diversity of our community by bringing a cultural dish to share and enjoy the company of our friends and neighbours! Whether it's vindaloo or fish and brewis, this cross-cultural culinary expe...rience is a celebration of 26 years since the historic "Singh Decision" by the Supreme Court of Canada, ruling that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects the right of refugee claimants in Canada to life, liberty and security of the person, and that claimants are therefore entitled to an oral hearing, in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice and international law. This decision has afforded refugee claimants the opportunity to seek freedom from persecution, danger and oppression here in St. John's and elsewhere in Canada and contribute to our diverse community.
