International Affairs

The CCR’s work is international as well as national in scope. We are involved in international networking and advocacy. Our international work has a number of specific focuses.

The Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement (ATCR)

The ATCR process brings together the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the governments and NGOs of resettlement countries, providing an opportunity for information-sharing and strategizing in support of resettlement. The ATCR involves both countries that have established resettlement programs and countries that are beginning to resettle refugees. Read more »

International Detention Coalition (IDC)

The CCR is a member of the International Detention Coalition, which aims to raise awareness of detention policies and practices, and to promote the use of international and regional human rights standards and principles, as they relate to the detention of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. The CCR coordinates Canadian NGO input and participation in the coalition. Read more »

Executive Committee of the UNHCR (EXCOM)

The Executive Committee (EXCOM) of the UNHCR is made up of governments, including the Canadian. The EXCOM holds an annual session, usually in October in Geneva. Every second year the CCR is invited to send a representative on the Canadian official delegation to EXCOM. Read more »

Regional Conference on Migration (Puebla Process)

The Regional Conference on Migration is an intergovernmental gathering at the vice-ministerial level among 11 countries: Belize, Canada, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama and the United States. Five more countries participate as observers: Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Jamaica and Peru. Their goal is to exchange experiences and information on migration in the region of North and Central America. Read more »
